How To Promote Affiliate Products – My Preferred Way

There are many ways to promote affiliate products. Of all the methods, my preferred way is to create “my own product” and promote affiliate products indirectly.

“My own product” can be in the form of a content website, a blog, a forum, a piece of software that I give away to build list or a free online application or service.

The key concept here is that I’m building and promoting traffic for my own product. As i do so, I’m at the same time channeling traffic to other products I’m affiliated to.

Most affiliates are attracted to the idea of promoting affiliate products without a website or with a simple one-page site. I agree these are faster way to make money. The problem is the growth potential is limited.

Building a business is not about making money. It’s about building a long-lasting asset, a cash cow that you can milk for many years.

An example of how to promote affiliate products by creating your own product:

Recently I came across a website called It’s fast becoming one of my favorite sites.

This website allows me to ‘instantly’ search for available domain names. (Honestly, the search result is not really updated. But it’s good enough for preliminary search). What’s more important is usually, when I found a domain that I wanted, I’ll just click through its GoDaddy link to buy the domain name right away. This means the website is earning some commissions.

This is a perfect example of what I mean by creating your own product and promote affiliate products indirectly.

An important advantage of creating your own product is that you have a lot more ways to drive traffic.

– You can do SEO
– You can do joint venture
– You can add your own product for sale and build affiliates to promote for you
– You can build a list
– More importantly, if your own product creates real value, it will attract traffic automatically through words of mouth, which is the most powerful traffic generation method.

This method takes more time and effort, but it will give you more lasting income, more growth potential and eventually more stability.

Last thing to add. Remember the free “Mind Your Own Biz” list builder script that I’ve developed for our members? Every strategy that I advocate and every product that I develop for you are in line with each other. 1. I totally agree! Turnkey Consulting’s webhome is We welcome businesses to a social networking platform (blogs, articles, videos, groups, forums, etc)they can use for themselves and provide useful information, tips, trends, services and products that would also compliment there efforts. I published this article there today. Point being we know how your referral system works being members, so this blog gives my efforts confirmation. I must admit also that I hadn’t been concentrating on my products as much but i will now. Good Stuff as always.

  2. Very good post.

I’m slowly building up my brand and subscriber list for my natural healing and wellness newsletter. To date, for the most part, the newsletter is my product. Now, I have to take it one step further and expand what I’m currently doing successfully.

Thanks for the advice and information.

    All the best,

  3. Building your own website where you can review and promote affiliate products is good because, providing you choose a memorable domain name, you can brand yourself as an expert in your chosen field. Of course you will also need to write some informative articles to attract visitors.

Also remember to place your main keyword, in a title, in H1 tags on the first line of your home page. This lets your visitors know immediately what your site is about.

  5. Good post Kenneth, I just wanted to add that before anybody goes and buys a domain because it sounds catchy or cute to keep in mind SEO. Your main keyword for your site should be in your domain, title and discription for the search engines. This will give you a higher rank on the search engines and if you plan on doing PPC (pay per click) at another time your quality score will be better, which means lower cost per click for you.:)

  6. What about subdomains if they can be used along with a domain name that makes the whole sensible to the visitor? For example, I have a domain called, and by adding prefixes which could be famous marketer’s names, or existing products and services, as subdomains, I create the idea that it’s their product, only maximised…

  7. After a couple of years of banging my head against the wall promoting other people’s sites, it has become clear that this strategy makes so much more sense.

In the beginning we get the sense that it is ‘simple’ or ‘easy’ and that there is no reason to have to go through all this effort. But, the fact remains, anything worth doing is worth doing correctly… right from the get-go. Delaying the inevitable just makes the whole process more painful in the long run.

Brand yourself, build your list and offer ‘value’ to your subscribers/visitors and the world is your oyster.

  8. Hi everyone,

I read about “If you have a product that creates real value”, it will automatically drive traffic to your site.

This is a very good point and I like the most. I have been pretty busy building traffic to my site by:

-Search Engine Submission to hundreds or thousands directories.
-Submit to Article content directories, either by manual or auto submission.
    -Forums Posting
    -Social Networking
    -Traffic Exchanges
    -So on

Below is my own website, check it out and tell me what do you think? I received a good feedback from a forum review.

  9. Hey, as you probably know already, Google is constantly changing the way they rank websites. These days, it is absolutely critical to get high quality, 1-way links to your website.
Reciprocal linking just isn’t anywhere near as effective as it once was. The problem that I, and most people are running into is it’s HARD to figure out how to get 1 way links… let alone high quality ones!
One of the absolute best, and even better… “easiest” ways to get these quality, one way links is by submitting your website to website directories. By doing so, you can not only get one way links, pretty much instantly, but you can control the anchor text used in your link.
Basically, this means that you can completely control which keywords you want to rank highly for! Up until now, there was still a problem, and that was…
    1. Finding the website directories you can submit your site to AND
    2. Once you find those directories, it takes quite a bit of time to actually fill in all of your website details, and submit your website to them…
But, guess what? I’ve come across a brand new program created by Brad Callen and the Bryxen Software team, called “Directory Submitter”. It allows you to quickly submit your website to thousands of website directories with a few mouse clicks! No kidding…
I’ve been using it and it’s saved me literally hours of time in both submitting AND in finding these directories.
Here’s the link to check out the software:

  10. Hi Ruth,

Thank you for sharing the great info.
Submit to directories is one of the ways to get 1 way back link to your site. This is same apply to forum posting, article content directories and so on.

To me, your link to Directory Submitter created by famous SEO expert-Brad Callen.

I have just tested it, as soon as I saw your message.

    My conclusion is like this:

1.Submitterbot, absolutely free submission to directories, social book marking and article directories.

2.Directory Submitter, a middle end product for auto-submission only to directories.

3.Search Engine Blaster, high end product with monthly recurring fees that submit your site to thousand or thousands directories with auto setting. You can set it to submit either by week, 2 weeks or by month. It is fully automatic even you are on a vocation. It also helps submit only for your URL domain, but also your URL’s sub-domains with their “Spider” features. Additionally, it also has a ” “Doorway pages” for attracting an online users to your site with keywords, keywords that online user always type into the search engine.

Furthermore, Search Engine Blaster submits your site to thousands of other non-directory sites everyday.

Hence, which of the 3 you are going to have is depend on your budget. If a marketer can really make money online, he or she for sure would like to have the easiest way to get their work done.

    Have a beautiful day.
    Best wishes to all
