LeadsLeap Auto-Switch Database System

On 7th last month, LeadsLeap main database server was down for about 12 hours.

As it was the main database, everything was down, including page, tracker, SendSteed and LeadsLeap main site.

It was the worst outage in LeadsLeap history.

I kept pestering the host support. That was the only thing I could do.

In the end, the culprit was a connection issue at the data center. It had nothing to do with our server.

This incident made me fully understand this proverb, “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link“.

So I set out to find a better alternative.

My ideal solution…

My ideal solution is to have 2 different database servers, in different data centers, hosted by different companies.

The two databases will auto-sync.

If one database is down, another database will take over immediately.

Wish comes true…

Today, I am pleased to announce that LeadsLeap auto-switch database system is now launched.

Our database is hosted in 2 different servers, one in the East of US, another in the West. So the chance of both servers or data centers failing is near zero, unless someone bombs the entire US!

We have just completed the migration process today.

If you experience anything unusual, please let me know.

Bear with me if you experience any teething issue, and make sure you report all issues to me.

Now I can sleep better at night…

The last incident had haunted me for nearly a month.

Now, I can sleep better.

That doesn’t mean LeadsLeap system is infallible. Things can still fail at other levels. But database is the heart of everything, and I’m quite confident to say that our database is now infallible.

      1. Wow, congratulations! I suspected it few weeks ago that LeadsLeap tracker section wasn’t working. I didn’t report it because I thought it was a minor temporary bug that would soon get fixed automatically. I decided to use my affiliate link(s) without tracking/cloaking.

I think I could resume using LeadsLeap tracker now. Congrats, everyone using LeadsLeap for any form of online business. Congrats to Kenneth (our LeadsLeap admin)!

      2. I hope that you are now walking into one of the many great years and the best years of your life. Blessings upon you and yours eternal.

  1. Wow, that sounds like an awesome solution Kenneth.

Enjoy your much deserved sleep from now on!

  2. Thank you for all the work you do and your commitment to making LeadsLeap a must have service.

  3. I have considered this very same issue myself and currently back everything up locally and have alternative hosting with the whole site duplicated there, but only as up to date as the last backup I did.

I would be interested to learn more about how you have got this setup, like how the sync works and how often it does so.

It is definitely the kind of solution I would want to look at myself, anything that saves sleepless nights is a good thing, Kudos to you Kenneth, I hope it works out well and the tech gremlins are banished for good :-)

    1. That’s what we did last time, but daily offline backup is not good enough. SendSteed gets hundreds of new opt-in every hour. Daily backup still means a loss of thousands of leads.

We sync the database every minute. While there may still be a slight chance of data loss, the loss is cut to the minimum. After all, such incident rarely happen. We really build this system for the blue moon. LOL.

  4. There seems to be a problem though….

I sent a broadcast to all my lists – the same email in all the list received the email….

meaning – I received over 10 same emails just because i have the same email address in different lists….

I should have received only one email – that was how it was working before….

    1. Many people got multiple same emails – just because they subscribed to my different lists….

This is bad and very unprofessional.

They will think it is SPAM and probably will unsubscribe from all lists.

Mail should have gone to around 750 active members – but it went to 1160 members – because of duplicate emails in multiple lists.

Please fix that . Thank you.

    2. We upgraded the database to MariaDB from mySQL, but there is a compatibility issue and we had to do a last minute script fix.

I think that’s where the problem lies. I will look into it ASAP.

  5. Thank you for your awesome service AND for your transparency AND for the constant updates. I appreciate you Kenneth.

  6. Great decision Ken! I am happy that it has been completed and now you can sleep at night without worrying about this happening again! God bless you

  7. Thank you, Kenneth, for your dedication to making LeadsLeap such a remarkable system. I will repeat what I read in another comment …. you have the BEST customer service I have ever encountered on the Internet. I am so happy and grateful to be a part of this amazing family.

  8. What can I say? Everyone has said it all.

Thank you Kenneth Koh, you are amazing

and Leads Leap is even more amazing with

    your latest improvement. Thank you.

  9. I am not in a position to comment on this backup move as I have been negligent in using the system; however, this is something that should be standard with this and other types of services, so congrats in getting it done, as we so fondly say “better late than never”.

  10. Great News Kenneth
    Congratulations! To all of us!

Thank You and please make a discount every month and dont force people to pay via card

  11. Good decision, but the next thing, if you haven’t already taken care of it is protection from hackers. Someone hacked one of my websites and took out Cpanel as well. They aren’t just going after big business they are going after anyone and everyone.

    1. Sorry to hear that. The solution is really backups after backups, both online and offline.

  12. Awesome decision. No compromising and just do it! Great to have company that does thing responsibly.

  13. To be fair that was the first time the sites went down in the years I’ve been with leadsleap kudos for learning from the experience

  14. Awesome! As a customer I trully appreciate every single step you take to improve the quality and features of the products you offer. And now, with this extra data protection layer, I’m greatly satisfied and confident. Kudos!

  15. Hi Kenneth

Great Safe and Secure Update of your database.
You took the best decision to keep the backup plan as it saves time and money both.
In todays scenario there are issues of power failures and Internet connection issues but this solution will definitely secure you data and updates of all the accounts that are in the leads leap.
Apart from this I would also suggest to take a manual backup of all the data which will save time incase if there is any security breach or cyber attach you can just scrap the existing setup and restore it up with the manual database backup. This will save time and money too. Think about it if it is correct from your point of view.

    Great Work and appreciated.
    Thanks

  16. Impressive move and I’m another one to sleep better alongwithmany, thanks big time Kenneth.

  17. Thank you for all you do to make sure our experience of Leadsleap is worth every penny and more than we pay for. This is the most transparent website membership that I think I’ve ever been a part of since I started this online thing in 2008.

Long may it continue, all the best.

    Rick

  18. Thank you Kenneth for the great site and all that you do.
I am finding I am now not receiving an email notice when someone opts in to my list. Also when I look on my page manager, I have 5 opt-ins (on a new page I am promoting) , my list manager shows 6 sent and subscribers is 4 and not one email notice for any. Any help would be appreciated.

    1. I see that you have many Lists. Can you send me a support ticket and let me know which List ID and Page ID you are referring to?

Looking forward to your support ticket.

    2. I think I found the List you are referring to. You have 4 optins because 1 has unsubscribed. You can see the Overview of that List.

As for notification, it is off by default. Please turn it on in the setting.

  19. Hi Kenneth, as I am sure you know by now, I have been sidelined for a time as well. I spent about three and half years plus a few more in South East Asia, Okinawa, S Korea, Thailand and several others including Viet Nam off and on for several years as well.

The overall benefit to those travels were the last 15 or so years learning to live off and on in VA a hospitals in Texas. This year thankfully we have been slowly taking care of some of the major issues. This past week hopefully was last long term Hosp visit for a while. Needless to say, Deb and I feel truly blessed to be able to finally see the end of the Tunnel with a few minor glitches left to take care. We are ready to rock and roll again and we thank you Kenneth for hanging tough with us and a few more in Leads leap.

    God Bless you all,

W are with you all for the long haul.

    Sam and Deb

    Texas
