Is Grass the best app for earning while you sleep? In my view, it is close.

GetGrass, or simply, Grass, is a DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) project on the Solana network that pays people daily for their unused internet bandwidth.

The concept behind DePIN is to enable a decentralized infrastructure where users can contribute their resources for earnings.

In this case, the resource is consumers' unused internet bandwidth, which Grass uses to create a network that benefits various applications, particularly artificial intelligence.

As consumers contribute their bandwidth via the Grass app, Grass pays them daily.

Consumers should know that Grass never accesses or shares their surfing habits or private information.

The Importance of the GetGrass App

When writing this review, Grass was in its second Epoch 2, beta phase.

Epoch is simply a "month" in Grass terminology.

During this epoch and the previous ones, Wynd Labs, the creators of the Grass app, have focused on several key activities.

These activities aim to refine the platform, enhance user experience, and ensure the reliability of its data collection model.

As AI technologies evolve, AI entities' demand for diverse and sizeable datasets grows because they desperately need them to provide accurate, updated information to their customers.

Grass has positioned itself to cater to this need on a massive scale by scraping data from the internet.

A Deeper Look At The Value Of The Data Grass Collects

The datasets Grass collects are highly valuable for several reasons.

First, they provide diverse information that AI companies and academic institutions need to train their models effectively.

High-quality, varied datasets help improve machine learning algorithms by exposing them to different scenarios, leading to better predictions and decision-making.

Second, the data represent real-world user behavior. These data are crucial for developing applications that require understanding consumer interactions, preferences, and trends.

AI models utilized in marketing, finance, and health benefit significantly from insights derived from these real-time data.

Third, acquiring datasets through decentralized user contributions, as enabled by Grass, makes the process more efficient and cost-effective.

Instead of relying on traditional data collection methods, which can be expensive and slow, Grass provides a scalable solution that can adapt to AI companies' changing needs.

Furthermore, with increasingly pivotal privacy concerns, Grass's model allows users to share their internet bandwidth without compromising personal information.

This ethical approach to data acquisition enhances trust and encourages more consumers to participate, ultimately enriching the dataset's quality and breadth.

Similarly, Grass will attract more institutional customers who value the ethical nature of the data collection.

Grass Is Poised To Be A Global Player In AI

Global AI labs can use only two companies to connect their language models to the internet. These two companies, which have built multi-trillion dollar businesses, can scrape the entire web.

The problem is that these companies also have their own large language model models (LLM) and compete with AI labs, which are their customers.

Grass Live Context Retrieval (LCR) offers a solution to this problem. Unlike the other companies, LCR is neutral and does not compete with its customers.

This means AI labs worldwide can use LCR without fear of sharing sensitive information or being disadvantaged by a competitor.

Indeed, Grass aims to be the third company capable of scraping the entire web.

How The Grass Account Works

The GetGrass app uses unused internet bandwidth from its users (you) to scrape the web so that its clients can access diverse data sources.

You get paid Grass points passively throughout the day for bandwidth usage.

If your account is eligible for an airdrop during the beta stage, you can get Grass tokens based on the points you have accumulated.

Otherwise, you can purchase Grass tokens. At the time of writing, one token is valued at $2.22.

You can install the app on your Chrome browser by downloading it from the Google Chrome extension directory. However, the app in this location is the lite version, which generates only half the passive income of the preferred version.

After you sign up for Grass for free, you will see the preferred version, the 2x app, available for download in your member's area. You can also download Grass apps for Mac and Linux from the member's area.

After installing, the app will run quietly in the background.

The app does not require surfing the internet to generate passive income. You must simply maintain a live internet connection to the app to earn Grass points on autopilot.

Downloading The Grass App

The setup process is pretty straightforward. Here's what you should do to start:

1) Go to the Grass website and create a free account.

Click on the left panel in the members' area that says "Install Grass Desktop App. " Download and install the app.

The desktop app's big green button indicates that it is connected. The app will show you the points you have accumulated and your network quality score.

The higher the score, the more points you will accumulate. My, and most other people's scores I have observed are 75% each.

The member's area will also show whether the app is connected or not. Sometimes, the desktop app will show "connected, " but the member's area will show that it is disconnected.

Don't worry; you will still earn points if the desktop app is connected.

To get the member's area to show "connected" again, click the refresh button in the member's area.
If that does not work, restart the desktop app by clicking the big green button twice—first to turn it off and again to turn it back on.

You should note that the points earned throughout the day are unadjusted. Grass adjusts the points earned at a particular time - upwards or downwards - to reflect your actual earnings.

2) After downloading the app, I suggest you download your wallet and connect it to your member's area.

There are instructions in the member's area to do so.

Your wallet is the place where you will receive your Grass tokens.

The wallet I use is called "Phantom. " Google it and download it. The wallet icon will then appear in your browser.

During the beta phase, you cannot convert the points you accumulate to Grass tokens at will. You must wait until the next airdrop date to see if you are eligible for tokens.

If you are eligible, great. You will be able to initiate the super-quick claims process.

If you are not eligible, fear not. There may be another airdrop at which point you can see if you qualify for tokens.

Alternatively, Grass will decide to leave beta and launch fully. At that time, you should be able to convert your points to tokens more freely.

Whatever the case, it is important to keep your internet connection on as much as possible to accumulate as many points as possible.

My Results

I have been mining Grass for seven months (since April 2024). I was eligible for the first airdrop.

Grass operates on the Solana network, so I needed a little Solana in my wallet for gas fees to claim my tokens.

Accepting my token into my wallet costs me 33 cents in Solana coins.

I could have converted the Grass tokens to Solana coins and then transferred my Solana to an exchange where I could convert them to fiat.

However, I decided to stake my tokens at 50% APR with one of the validators on the list in the member's area. I see Grass's potential, so I am in it for the long haul.

One fascinating aspect of the tokens is that when companies use Grass' LCR, the gas fees for the bandwidth that powers the LCR are denominated in tokens.

This means that whether a Grass client pays in cash (fiat) or cryptocurrency, those payments must be converted into Grass tokens. This mandatory conversion bodes well for the token's future value.

Rewards Program

GetGrass also has a referral program, which allows you to earn more by inviting friends to join.

Your referral link is in your member's area. You will earn bonus points for your referrals down to three levels deep.

As soon as you sign up for Grass, you should share your referral link with as many people as possible to increase your accumulated points.

Any referrals you make will be pending until your internet is connected to the app for at least 100 hours.

You also have several chances to earn bonus points as you hit various milestones in accumulating points.

Conclusion: Is GetGrass Worth It?

My experience with GetGrass has been very positive. I appreciate the app's simplicity and its ability to earn passive income.

Many crypto projects lack Grass' real-world utility, which may bode well for this app's future.

I love Grass' potential, but realizing its full potential is a long game that requires patience.

If you accumulate Grass tokens bit by bit, stake them, and are prepared to hold them long-term, you might be in for a life-changing financial future.
